Prospector talks to Matt Birkbeck author of

Prospector just finished reading the book about Louis Denaple & Russel Bufalino "The Quiet Don".  He called the author Matt Birkbeck to tallk about why he wrote the book and exactly how much influnce Bufalino had in the mob.  Listen to it here:

Matt Birkbeck is an award winning investigative journalist and author.

Matt's latest book, The Quiet Don (Berkley/Penguin)  tells the true story of Russell Bufalino, who was arguably one of the most powerful mobsters in the U.S.  His previous book,  Deconstructing Sammy(Amistad/Harper Collins), tells the riveting story of Sammy Davis Jr. and the efforts to resolve his millions in debts and restore his legacy following his death in 1990. The New York Times Book Review calledDeconstructing Sammy “Gripping” and “Sensational” while the Los Angeles Times called it “Epic.”
Matt's international bestseller, A Beautiful Child (Berkley/Putnam 2004), told the remarkable, tragic story of Sharon Marshall, a brilliant young woman who was kidnapped as a toddler by Franklin Delano Floyd, a convicted felon, fugitive and pedophile who raised her as his daughter while traveling the country using stolen identities. Matt spent six hours in a Florida prison in 2003 interviewing Floyd, who had just been sentenced to death for torturing and murdering a Tampa woman.

Matt is also the co-author of Till Death Do Us Part (Atria/Simon & Schuster 2006) with Dr. Robi Ludwig, a noted psychologist who appears regularly on The Today Show and Larry King Live.

Matt's first book, A Deadly Secret, told the bizarre story of Robert Durst, the heir to a New York real estate empire who was charged and later acquited of one murder, a grisly dismemberment, and a suspect in two others, including the disappearance of his wife Kathie.  Matt covered the Durst story for People Magazine and Reader's Digest and served as a consultant for CBS News 48 Hours.

Matt has written for The New York Times, Reader's Digest, Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Magazine and People magazine.

And GO!

Bill O'Brien is not the DEVIL!

Bill O'Brien, he's not the devil

As you probably know by now, Penn State Head Football Coach Bill O'Brien has forgone Blue and White to accept a Coaching job in the NFL for the Houston Texans.  And people are Peo'ed!   I saw this post Wednesday on twitter from a sports writer out of Pittsburgh:  "What's the point of college coaches even having contracts?"  I guess to provide some protection for both should anything change.  Like PSU getting millions from the Texans because O'Brien left.  I saw so many "He was" tweets too.  Yeah, A lot of people are very upset that Bill O'Brien took a better job.  Are you kidding me?  I see a lot of what about loyalty comments and the like.  Hey you think there is loyalty in big time sports?  Then I got a bridge to sell ya.  If he wasn't winning he would be out on his loyal backside in a heartbeat.  Unless of course you work for the Pittsburgh Steelers, that Rooney family is loyal.  Outside of that, this loyalty b.s. cuts both ways.  I don't know about you but if a big city job that paid a boatload of cash came to me I'd seriously think about taking it and I grew up listening to Rock 107.  So I'm loyal but I'm not stupid.  When you can walk away for a great job to keep a good job because of loyalty then you can whine about Bill O'Brien leaving Penn State.  I cannot understand beating a guy up who took a better job.  But yet a lot PSU fans act like he stole from them.  Come on man!   He came In took a job that NOT A LOT of people wanted and pretty much knocked the bottom out of it.  He took a program many left for dead and saved it.  Seriously I don't think I'm overstating it.  When you do great work, better opportunities come to you and you'd be foolish not to take it.  Bill O'Brien did that.  He didn't murder anyone, steal from anyone or betray anyone.  He took a better job.  Period!  You'd do it too and if not your aren't loyal, you're stupid!
