Ruth's Story
What was your first job?
Don't be shocked but my first job was doing weekend news on WEJL. Yes, I was here in the early 80's and remember when John Webster was hired to be office manager! He also filled in for me doing the 12:30 news while I went to lunch.
What was your worst job?
By far my worst job was selling cruises at a travel agency. I found out quickly that I am not cut out for office politics!
How did you get started in radio?
I always wanted to work in radio and have a BA from Marywood University in Scranton. My concentration is radio/tv. I left radio for a time but came back because I really missed it. Also, I never tried for a job in TV. Radio is just so much better
What do people tell you or ask you the most?
Right after they say "Oh my God you're Ruth!" I get asked about beer. I am not a drinker normally but "Chip the Beer Guy" is teaching me the finer points of beer. Now I only drink if Chip is around but its not just beer anymore. Chip had me try a Moonshooter and Tequilla Rose. Webster also played a part in that! They're good.
What do like to do when you're on free time?
Free time. What's that? My day is somewhat hectic. Because I get up so early I have a hard time staying up later than 8pm most nights. I have a husband and two teenage daughters. They keep me going.
Musically, who are your favorite artists?
In all honesty my favorite artist is Billy Joel. No matter what he records I love it.
What is the craziest thing you've ever done?
On the whole I am a very conservative person and I really don't do anything crazy but....I rode on the back of a motorcycle with a man named "Mulch" who I never met before. It happened on the Small Town Tour at Pocono Mountain Leather in Ashley. I was so nervous that my legs were shaking and I was hanging on to "Mulch" for dear life as we rode off. That had to be the craziest thing I have ever done and to this day I can't believe I did it. Will I do it again? NO WAYI
If you could invite anyone to dinner (dead or alive) who would it be?
Of course I want to have dinner with Harrison Ford. He is so dreamy. Yes, I know he's getting a little old but he's still the only guy I will leave my husband for. My husband knows this.
What is your most annoying habit?
I have a lot of annoying habits. Just ask my family. One big one: I obssess about certain things. I make lists and plan for holidays months in advance.
What are three things you can’t live without?
I can't live without most things but if I had to pick...my toothbrush, makeup and hairspray. Okay, I am vain. I also don't go anywhere with out my cellphone. I want to talk with my husband about something I don't wait I just call.
What is your favorite junk food?
I love chocolate. Who needs to eat dinner when you can eat cookies, cake and pie? I really don't go for chips and pretzels.
Where are your favorite hangouts?
My hang out is my living room couch. I really just like to chill out at home.
Tell us your dirty little secret.
If I told you my dirty little secret it wouldn't be a secret anymore. So, NO, I will not tell you.
