Jay's Story

What was your first job?
Opening up a summer camp.  

What was your worst job?
Same as my first.  Going into musty cabins, clearing out cobwebs, carrying mattresses, clearing tons of leaves and brush... just a lot of backbreaking work.

How did you get started in radio?
A friend was looking to get out of radio after he landed a full time teaching gig and agreed to hang on until I got licensed and was able to work the weekend shift at this small AM station in Torrington, Connecticut

What do people tell you the most?
That I have the coolest job in the world.  Get paid for talking and listening to rock and roll.

What do like to do when you're on free time?
Taking walks or drives in the country

Musically, who are your favorite artists?
I really like Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits)  There's something about his songwriting and guitar playing I think is just great.  Another one of my favorites is Michael Been who was the leader for many years of a band named "The Call".  Saw him play many times and just was blown away by his music.

What is the craziest thing you've ever done?
Back in high school, me and friend of mine (he was driving) tried to see how fast we could go and wound up going 110 MPH on some two lane windy roads... ahh, the innocence of youth.  I still think about how stupid that was.

If you could invite anyone to dinner (dead or alive) who would it be?
Any of my musical faves

Do you have any pets?
2 cats, Buddy and a kitten that was named for one of our co-workers, Krista.  I had a dog (a chow-chow named "Homei") who passed recently.  He was a great dog... very loyal, but was a little high strung and used to bite people

Do you surf the web? What are your favorite sites?
I will usually think of something and then search the web for it.  Recently I got on a Phil Hartman kick... then will go to video sites to see stuff people have posted.  Also I'll look for band videos for some of my favorites.

What sites do you go to just to waste time?
Usually YouTube, StumbleUpon, BoreMe... mostly video sites

If you had a theme song what would it be? Why?

Did you ever have a brush with fame?
Is that the same as meeting famous people?  In our business, I've met plenty... but after a while you realize they all put their pants on one leg at a time.

Three things you can’t live without?
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

What is your favorite junk food?
Pizza.  I know there'll be people who disagree that it's junk food, but it doesn't have a lot of nutrition going for it the way I like it.  Lots of extra cheese, pepperoni or sausage.

Who are your personal heroes?
That term gets tossed around a lot these days.  I guess anyone who selflessly gives of his or her self for others.

Where are your favorite hangouts?
On my couch, in front of the fireplace reading a good book and listening to good music.
