Rotary Club of the Abingtons Pasta Dinner (Benefit - Fundraiser)
Location: Abington Heights High School
Sunday, April 28, 2013, is the date for the annual Rotary Club of the Abingtons Pasta Dinner from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit, PA. In addition to our Award Winning Meatballs, Chef Schiavone and son will be making their homemade special recipe sauce. Salad, dessert and beverages will round out this great meal. Dinners will be served by happy Rotarians and some of the finest young people in the Abingtons. Take outs will be available. The price is $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 12. All proceeds made from this dinner will benefit Allied Services Pediatrics/ DePaul School, Abington Little League, Russello Cancer Fund, and other Clarks Summit area youth initiatives. Saturday, April 13 will be an exciting day in Clarks Summit! It’s the day the Friends of the Abington Community Library will hold its annual Spring Book Sale at the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church from 9AM to 2PM, a terrific time to stock up on summer reads while benefitting the Library. Thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, books on tape, and more for all ages will be available from $0.25-$2.00. Free admission!
FREE E-CYCLING (Church Event)

Location: Clarks Summit United Methodist Church
On Saturday, April 13, from 9 AM to 2 PM the Abington Community Library will be partnering with the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church to offer a free E-cycling event. Items that can be RECYCLED FOR FREE include: telephones, cell phones; DVD & VCR players; filing cabinets; stereos, speakers, cables, cords; Smart Boards; keyboards; mice; UPS battery backups and laptop batteries; audio visual equipment; microwaves; all computers, monitors; projectors; printers; fax machines; floor copiers; TVs; gaming systems; calculators; adding machines; exercise equipment. ITEMS RECYCLED FOR A SMALL FEE: refrigerators ($30); AC units ($20); washers/ dryers $10; car batteries $5; floor freezers ($30); dehumidifiers ($20); dishwashers ($20). Donations made that day benefit the Abington Community Library.
The Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend (Benefit - Fundraiser)
Time: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Location: PNC Field
The Bill Howerton Inaugural Strikeout Cancer Weekend will be held April 13th and 14th at the newly renovated PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the AAA affiliate of the New York Yankees. Local high school and college baseball teams will play games throughout the weekend. The fun kicks off on Saturday at 11 AM at PNC Field with North Pocono High School versus Pocono Mountain East followed by Keystone College versus Marywood University at 2 PM. Admission is free. There will be raffles and donation buckets as funds raised during the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The event will honor Bill Howerton, who coached the University of Scranton for 16 seasons as well as the Scranton Red Soxx for 11 seasons. Howerton passed away unexpectedly in August due to complications resulting from cancer.
Keeping Kids Safe Project (Community Event)
Time: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: Toyota of Scanton
Join us on April 12th and 13th at the Toyota of Scranton auto dealership for free FBI quality digital fingerprint and photographs from one of the top child safety programs in the country! The Keeping Kids Safe Project will take a child’s fingerprints and send them home with parents. Parents can use the record to turn directly over to authorities anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. There will also be community organizations present to provide safety information and entertainment for families. The child safety fair will take place Friday, April 12th from 3-7PM and Saturday, April 13th from 10AM-4PM. Toyota of Scranton is located at 3400 N Main Ave in Scranton, PA.
